Building the technology
that saves lives
Gun Safety First is a U.S. nonprofit building technology-driven solutions to prevent gun violence. We partner with communities, schools, healthcare professionals, and frontline organizations to identify risk early and act before tragedies occur.
Our Mission
Prevention is a
technology problem
To prevent gun violence in the United States by building the technology, research, and partnerships that help communities see risk earlier and intervene before harm occurs.
What we build
Technology that connects warning signals across schools, clinics, and communities in time to act.
How we work
In partnership with researchers, frontline organizations, and communities. Never parachuting in.
Why it matters
Policy moves on a different clock than people in crisis. The infrastructure to act faster needs to be built.
Our Story
Built by people who
saw a gap and decided
to close it
Gun Safety First was founded by a team of technologists, researchers, and community advocates who shared a single observation: the gap between the prevention tools America has and the prevention work America actually needs was no longer a research question. It was a building problem.
For decades, the public conversation around gun violence has cycled through the same arc — a tragedy, a wave of grief, a political fight, a stalemate. Meanwhile, the people on the front lines of prevention have been doing extraordinary work with inadequate tools.
We launched Gun Safety First to build what they need.
Our Values
What we believe
Six principles that guide how we build, who we partner with, and what we're willing to stand behind.
Gun violence is preventable

It is not a force of nature. Every shooting has a sequence of moments before it where intervention was possible. The work is to make those interventions reach further and faster.
Prevention is layered

No single law or product solves gun violence. Real progress combines many interventions. Secure storage, mental-health support, threat assessment, and community trust.
Technology must earn its place

We deploy only what we can stand behind on safety, accuracy, and civil liberties. We publish what works and what doesn't.
Good laws should work

The laws that reduce gun violence already exist. Too many fail in practice because systems to enforce and measure them don't. We build that accountability layer.
Communities know what they need

We do not parachute in. We partner with researchers, frontline organizations, and people directly affected by gun violence who are already leading the work.
This is not a partisan fight

Gun owners and non-owners agree on more than the headlines suggest. Our test for partnership is shared commitment to evidence and to lives.
